about.
MIJO is a personal love letter to my mother and the support she gave me. This project blends live-action and 3D animation to capture the emotional weight of memory, care, and growth. It’s not about retelling specific moments, but about evoking the feelings those moments left behind. Through symbolic objects, sound, and space, MIJO explores the invisible connection between past and present, childhood and adulthood, mother and son. This is a story built from emotion, raw, nostalgic, and honest.
challenge.
Creating MIJO came with a set of deeply personal and technical challenges. Translating raw emotion into abstract 3D visuals while keeping the story honest and not overly literal pushed me to find a delicate balance between symbolism and clarity. Merging live-action footage with animation required precision in lighting, pacing, and transitions to maintain emotional cohesion. Representing my mother truthfully without idealizing her was emotionally demanding, especially when the subject matter was so close to home. Technically, working with bloom effects, sound design, and visual metaphors like Lego pieces under a tight schedule tested both my creativity and patience. The hardest part was letting go of perfection and accepting that not every frame would fully match the feeling in my head, but that the message would still come through.
results.
Despite the challenges, MIJO became one of my most emotionally resonant and technically refined pieces. It allowed me to push the boundaries of what I can express through 3D animation and storytelling, blending live-action and abstraction in a way that felt cohesive and impactful. The piece received strong reactions from viewers who connected with its emotional depth and visual symbolism, proving that vulnerability in art creates powerful resonance. On a personal level, it helped me reflect on my relationship with my mother and translate that reflection into something tangible and timeless. MIJO stands as a turning point in my creative voice and one that’s honest, cinematic, and grounded in emotion.
